The 6th Man Expo is set to open on August 21. Since its debut in 2009, the event has been held in Dongguan, and the city has successfully hosted five editions so far. The expo has not only become a prominent feature of China's animation industry but has also quietly transformed Dongguan’s image from an industrial hub into a cultural and creative center.
According to officials from the Executive Committee of the 6th Man Expo, data shows that since the 5th edition, there have been 2,031 exhibitors, covering an exhibition area of 327,000 square meters and attracting over 2.71 million visitors. This has effectively integrated domestic and international animation resources, creating a powerful platform for industry collaboration and promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries in the province. It has now become a key symbol of Dongguan’s cultural industry development.
In addition to the growing scale of the event, recent editions have placed increasing emphasis on copyright transactions and protection, highlighting the importance of industry docking. Since the 4th Man Expo introduced the brand licensing exhibition, two sessions have facilitated 24 major animation brand licensing projects with a total transaction value of 2.9 billion yuan.
Pan Xinchao, a member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and head of the Propaganda Department, stated at this year’s mobilization meeting that Dongguan’s cultural industry generated an added value of 26.4 billion yuan last year, representing a 29% increase from the previous year. It accounted for 4.8% of the city’s GDP, ranking third among the nine cities in the Pearl River Delta, behind only Huizhou and Shenzhen. Hosting a successful fair can boost local cultural consumption, stimulate economic growth, and support the city’s steady development.
Officials from the Executive Committee noted that the impact of the Man Expo on Dongguan is becoming more evident. Through the expo’s platform, not only have original animation companies chosen to establish themselves in the city, but many traditional enterprises have also built industrial docking platforms. This has truly driven the rise of the animation industry and improved Dongguan’s overall industrial structure.
