On the 29th, the reporter visited Mr. Zhang at the Liufeng Road store of Fushoutang. The clerk, Ms. Yang, showed him a copy of the "Glasses Health Manual" and explained: "According to our company policy, frames priced between 100 and 300 yuan come with a three-month warranty. However, damage caused by human error is not covered. Due to differences in manufacturers and materials, we couldn’t find matching parts for Mr. Zhang’s frame, and the broken material was difficult to weld. Therefore, replacing the frame is the best option." She added that if the customer didn’t want to buy a new frame, they could take two legs from an old one in the store, but this would require some risk.
The reporter also visited two other optical shops in the city to check their warranty policies. Ms. Liu, manager of Baoshida Glasses on Jianye Street, stated that their warranty period is also three months. While they don’t cover human-caused damage, they try to repair the glasses without charging the customer.
At a large eyewear store on Shangyang Road, a service pledge was displayed on the wall, promising free maintenance after the warranty period. If customers bought a new frame, they would receive discounts. Ms. Guo, the store supervisor, said, “If we need to send the frame back to the factory for repairs, the cost is quite high. We usually recommend customers to buy a new pair instead.â€
The survey revealed that the warranty periods for spectacle frames vary among optical shops, ranging from one month to a year, depending on the price. However, the coverage is generally similar. To avoid issues like Mr. Zhang’s, the newspaper advises the public to carefully understand the pros and cons of different frames, ask about the warranty scope and duration, and ensure timely and effective maintenance when problems arise.
