3 Leather UVCC

UVCC was originally used for wood coating. With the continuous development and improvement of technology, its application scope has become more extensive. The application of UVCC in the study of leather finishing began abroad in the 1970s. However, in China, research in this area is still relatively rare. Compared to traditional leather finishing agents, the advantages of UVCC in leather finishing are:

(1) The curing speed is greatly improved, and the drying time is even less than 1 minute. The possibility that the wet film adheres to dust and causes the gloss to decrease is greatly reduced;

(2) The solvent volatilization is greatly reduced;

(3) Low curing temperature;

(4) Excellent glossiness and aesthetic appearance of the coating film;

(5) Avoid the use of cross-linking agents such as formaldehyde in leather finishing agents, play an environmental protection role, and accord with the development direction of eco-leathers;

(6) Can be used for leather finishing, but also can be used for artificial leather and synthetic leather finishing, equipment requirements are simple. Researchers from Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China University of Science and Technology, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai University, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, and Institute of Photographic Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other scientific and technical personnel are engaged in the field of UV curing. Scientific research and technological development, and active technical cooperation with related companies to achieve integration of production and research, which not only promoted the popularization and improvement of UV curing technology, but also greatly accelerated the progress of industrialization.

In foreign countries, since the 1960s, Bayer AG has successfully used unsaturated polyester and styrene to develop light-cured wood coatings. Although China's UVCC industry has achieved certain development in recent years, compared with foreign developed countries, there is still a big gap in terms of variety, quality, market size, and research and development.
