Discussion on Test Method of Adhesive Strength of Honeycomb Paperboard

In order to standardize the quality of honeycomb paperboard products and promote the development of honeycomb paperboard production technology, China Packaging Corporation released "The People's Republic of China Industry Standard Packaging Material Honeycomb Paperboard" (BB/T0016-1999) on April 8, 1999.

Honeycomb paperboard is made by bonding the face paper and the inner paper to the middle honeycomb paper core respectively. Honeycomb paper core is a continuous honeycomb core material formed by a plurality of paper or paperboards through glueing, drawing and other processes. The main bonding site of the honeycomb paperboard is between the paper and the honeycomb paper core, and the adhesive between the paper and the honeycomb paper core and the paper strip constituting the honeycomb paper core.

Standard BB/T0016-1999 specifies the requirements for physical and mechanical properties of honeycomb paperboard and the test methods. The peel strength of honeycomb paper is taken as the key, and the peel strength is specified as follows: The peel strength of honeycomb paperboard at each bonding site is not less than 250N/ m/.

The method of testing peel strength is carried out according to the method specified in "Test method for adhesive T-peel strength of flexible materials for flexible materials" (GB/T2791-1995). The method specifies that the A-side and B-side are flexible materials, and the middle is The adhesive is squeezed and pulled outwardly from both sides of the unbonded portion of the flexible material to separate the bonded portion while measuring the force required to separate the bonded portion.

From the regulations and test methods for the peel strength of honeycomb paperboard, it can be seen that the peel strength in BB/T0016-1999 may be the same as the honeycomb paper core, the inner paper or honeycomb paper core, or the honeycomb paper core. For each bonding site, that is, if we want to test the bonding strength of the honeycomb paperboard, it is difficult to say clearly where this bonding strength belongs, so it is difficult to specify this index when it comes to testing.

If the bonding site is clarified, we now set the bonding site to be between the paper and the honeycomb paper core, that is, the bond strength between them is the peel strength we want to test. We follow (GB/T2791-1995) According to the specified method, when the non-adhered portions of the A-plane and the B-plane are forced to stretch to both sides, the peeled portion is often an adhesion portion between the layers inside the A-plane or the B-plane, instead of the A-plane. Even if data can be measured, it is hard to reflect the real situation we are testing.

In summary, the provisions concerning peel strength of honeycomb paperboard are difficult to distinguish in practical tests. Even if the parts to be tested are clearly distinguished, the peel strength we need cannot be detected by the currently specified test methods. We can conclude that it is not appropriate to carry out the peel strength test of honeycomb paperboard in accordance with the "China's industry standard packaging material honeycomb paperboard" (BB/T0016-1999).

Since the test method for the peel strength of honeycomb paperboard specified in BB/T0016-1999 is not appropriate, how can the test of this item be more reasonable? As far as our experience with paper products is concerned, the use of qualitative provisions rather than quantitative provisions may be a bit better because the project is quantitatively regulated, but this requirement cannot be met in actual tests. Even if the relevant data are barely measured, it is inaccurate. Therefore, we believe that the change of the item into a textual description is more in line with the actual situation. For example, if the peeling strength is changed to the bonding site, there will be no obvious false tackiness and degumming. (Xu Yan Zhu Yan) ("China Packaging News")
