Donald Trump has long been a polarizing figure in the United States, known for his controversial statements and business ventures. His influence extends beyond real estate, as he often sparks public debate with his unfiltered remarks. In the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump once again drew attention, this time by targeting Mexican immigrants. He claimed that they were negatively impacting the U.S., accusing them of bringing crime, drugs, and violence across the border.
"Those people are seriously damaging our population," Trump stated. "I respect Mexico as a country, but our problem is that their leaders know better than us—they're killing us at the border and ruining our trade. When Mexico sends people to the U.S., it's not the good ones. They bring problems, drugs, crime, and even rapists. Some may be okay, but I've spoken to border guards who tell me what we get."
His comments sparked outrage across the nation, especially among Mexican immigrants. One such individual is Fernando Sosa, a 3D designer who came to the U.S. at age 11 and now creates politically charged 3D printed dolls on Shapeways. For Sosa, Trump’s rhetoric was not just offensive—it was a personal attack.
"When I saw Trump demonizing all immigrants from South America, especially those from Mexico, it made me angry," Sosa said.
In response, Sosa decided to take a creative stand. As a 3D printing artist, he designed a model of Donald Trump in the shape of an anal plug. Using tools like Photoshop, Maya, and Mesh Lab, he created a highly detailed 3D model. To make it more realistic, he sourced photos of Trump online and added a lifelike "skin texture" using Photoshop.
"The actual face of Donald Trump looks pretty gross after TV makeup," Sosa remarked. "It's a mix of sunburn and something that looks like melanoma. The only thing I don’t like is his hair. It looks nice, but in reality, he’s bald."
Driven by anger, Sosa worked through the night, finishing the design by 5 a.m. He then uploaded the model to Shapeways, where it was sold for $27.99.
"This is my way of responding to Trump’s words," Sosa said. "You said Mexico sent you scum, rapists, and drug dealers. I say 'f*** you and your Republicans!' I wasn't sent here by the Mexican government. My family came to the U.S. because of my stepfather. We came for the American dream. My parents worked hard so my brother and I could go to college or serve in the military. I’m not a rapist, I don’t deal drugs. I have a degree in 3D animation and run my own 3D printing business. And I can turn you into any shape I want! I can print you and sell you to others, letting them share their dislike of you. You can threaten to sue me, as you often do. But since you’re a public figure, this is free speech."
So, don’t underestimate a 3D printing artist like Sosa. His work isn’t just art—it’s a powerful form of expression and resistance.
